Painted Pastures Animal Rescue & Sanctuary

Alex is a 2½ year old Shepard Mix. He came to us because his time was up at Animal Control. When he arrived we discovered that he was disfigured in his back legs. His rear legs were curved in and he limped severely. We had our vet take x-rays and found that Alex had been previously hit by a car and had never been treated medically for it. Our vet then informed us that Alex needed a double knee surgery. With the help of Midwest Animal Hospital, we were able to diagnose Alex with a Grade 2 Luxating Patella in his left leg and a Grade 3 Luxating Patella in his right.  In order to insure Alex’s life would be pain free from this injury, it was necessary to do the surgeries. He has had the first of two procedures and is recovering well. When he is able, Alex will have the second knee operation and will finally be ready to find his forever family and forever home.

Dolly is a 2 year old Shar Pei who came to us with various medical concerns. One of the worst conditions she had was impairing her vision and making daily life very difficult. We took her to Midwest Animal Hospital where they evaluated her and determined she would need surgery on both eyes. She was diagnosed with a common yet debilitating eye condition called Eye Entropia.  EyeEntropia is when the excess skin surrounding the eye causes the eyelids to roll in and the eyelashes scratch the surface of the cornea. This constant irritation will ulcerate the cornea and unless treated will eventually lead to the dog losing his eyesight in the affected eye.  This surgery not only restored Dolly’s sight, it has given her more confidence in her surroundings and allowed her to have a higher quality of life. Dolly is recovering well and we are hoping to find a forever family and a forever home for her very soon.
